Ernesto moving away ! :( On top of all the boat attack craziness today, gamboa lost not only a bridge, but also this fantastic person who just left to start his PhD in Czech republic! Ernesto is the absolute king of gamboa parties, and a brilliant, very silly, and very lovely person! We will miss you buddy!

After two months stuck in gamboa, the amazing guy, Mulget, who ran all the way here from the bottom of South America is looking for some things to do, and he decided he wants to paint a huge painting, so we are helping him make a giant canvas!

A great thing about working with non-human animals

A great thing about working with non-human animals is you always fail to predict how this creature, that is very different from yourself will behave and react until you built tacit knowledge of their actions which is only possible by building a close personal relationship with the animal. For instance, we have been working with Valencia the amazing tapir for about a month, and made a fun toy for her to snoot around. It included flaps of bamboo held up by a piece of metal pipe and a PVC pipe (that made th bamboo kind of bounce a bit in a fun way). But as soon as we brought the toy and install with the tapir, Mireya, who has been working at the @appcpanama , immediately told us that Valencia will want to chomp the PVC tube. And while there was plenty of different parts of this whole toy for her to chew on, Valencia went straight for the little bit of PVC sticking out the end and chomped it up good. We fixed it up right away with a new tube, but it's a great lesson how much of any kind of design entirely relies on intimately knowing and caring for the creatures you design for :)
